Increase Security with Multi-Factor Authentication

This article explains how to enable and configure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in LawPay Link to secure firm and client accounts.

Overview

Enhance the security of your payment processes by enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This feature adds a critical layer of protection by requiring two pieces of evidence to verify a user's identity before granting access to the software.

How It Works

  1. First Factor: The user enters their standard login and password.

  2. Second Factor: LawPay Link sends a unique, one-time six-digit code to the user’s registered email address.

  3. Access: The user enters the code to complete the login process.

Setup Instructions

MFA is optional and can be configured in just a few minutes by an administrator.

  1. Log into LawPay Link.

  2. Navigate to Settings in the left navigation bar.

    • Note: You must have Admin permissions to access this area.

  3. Select the Security tab and configure the following options:

    • Users: Switch to On to require MFA for all firm members.

    • Users MFA Duration: Choose how long a device remains authenticated (0–24 hours). Select 0 to require a new code for every single login.

    • Payer Portal Payers: Switch to On to require MFA for your clients. You can later disable this for specific individuals if needed.

  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Important: Location-Based Security

Authentication is tied to the user's IP address. If you change locations (e.g., moving from the office to a home network), you will be required to enter a new verification code at your next login, even if your original authentication session has not yet expired.
